Resolution says India is no longer considered a democracy and has earned the label of “electoral autocracy”

The Congressional Working Committee (CWC) adopted three firm resolutions on Saturday on inflation, the ongoing protests by farmers and the country’s political situation, in particular the blockade of the border with China, and the deterioration of the situation. security in Jammu and Kashmir after the Taliban takeover. from Afghanistan.

The party also decided to take to the streets on the issue of soaring inflation by undertaking a jan jagaran abhiyan (popular awareness campaign) between 14 and 29 November, and announced a series of training programs for its leaders and workers on grassroots management, election management and the failures of Narendra Modi’s government.

The first of these trainings will take place in Sewagram, Wardha in (Maharashtra) between November 12 and 15.

“Evil, arrogant”

On the issue of farmers, the CWC alleged that the past seven years have witnessed an “evil quote” aimed at attacking the livelihoods of local people. annadatas and landless farm workers.

The CWC said the “brutal” mowing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri was a manifestation of the government’s continued “arrogance” and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to fire the Union Minister whose son was been arrested in connection with the incident.

In a resolution on the political situation in the country, the CWC said that “the attack on democratic institutions completes the sad and shameless narrative of the Modi government” and asserted that India is no longer considered a democracy and has earned the label of an “electoral autocracy”.

Congress alleged that independent oversight bodies like the Information Commission, the Election Commission and the Human Rights Commission have been “debased and rendered virtual ciphers”.

The CWC expressed alarm at what it called a “rapid deterioration” in the country’s security, both external and internal.

“Almost 18 months after the clashes in Ladakh in which 20 soldiers lost their lives, Chinese troops continue to occupy Indian territory. Despite several rounds of talks, China has not left Indian territory and we have not been able to recover our old positions, ”the political resolution said.

“China’s aggressive posture and relentless infiltration from Pakistan have resulted in a dramatic deterioration in the security of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). After the regime change in Afghanistan and the takeover of power by the Taliban, the situation is even more serious, but the government remains unconscious or in a deep sleep, ”he added.

Calling the J&K administration incompetent, the CWC demanded the reestablishment of a full state and democratic elections.

The resolution also said that in other parts of the country, including Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram, interstate disputes have erupted, sparking fear in the minds of the people.

Expressing deep concern over the Centre’s decision to grant more powers to the Border Security Force, which now has search and seizure powers up to 50 km from the border in states like Assam, West Bengal and Punjab, the CWC said, “This is a dangerous encroachment on the exclusive power of states and the powers of the state police.”
