Resolution says India is no longer considered a democracy and has gained the label of ‘electoral autocracy’

The Congressional Labor Committee (CWC) on Saturday passed three strongly worded resolutions on inflation, the ongoing farmer protests and the country’s political situation, particularly the border with China, and the deteriorating security situation in Jammu and Kashmir after the Taliban takeover. from Afghanistan.

The party has also decided to take to the streets on the issue of galloping inflation by undertaking a
Jan Jagaran Abhiyan (People’s Awareness Campaign) between November 14 and 29, and announced a series of training programs for its leaders and workers on grassroots management, election management and the failures of the Narendra Modi government.

The first such training will take place in Sewagram, Wardha in (Maharashtra) between 12th and 15th November.

“Devilish, arrogant”

On the issue of farmers, the CWC alleged that the past seven years have witnessed an “evil design” to attack the livelihoods of
annadatas and landless agricultural workers.

The CWC said the ‘brutal’ mowing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri was a manifestation of the government’s continued ‘arrogance’ and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to sack the Union minister whose son was killed. was arrested in connection with the incident.

In a resolution on the political situation in the country, the CWC said that “the assault on democratic institutions completes the sad and shameless narrative of the Modi government” and affirmed that India is no longer considered a democracy and earned the label of “electoral autocracy”.

Congress has alleged that independent oversight bodies such as the Information Commission, Election Commission and Human Rights Commission have been “degraded and rendered virtual”.

The CWC expressed concern over what it called a “rapid deterioration” in the country’s security, both external and internal.

“Nearly 18 months after clashes in Ladakh in which 20 soldiers lost their lives, Chinese troops continue to occupy Indian territory. Despite several rounds of talks, China has not left Indian Territory, nor have we been able to recover our old positions,” the political resolution reads.

“China’s aggressive posturing and Pakistan’s relentless infiltrations have led to a dramatic deterioration in the security of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). After the regime change in Afghanistan and the takeover by the Taliban, the situation is even more serious, but the government remains unconscious or in a deep sleep,” he added.

Calling the J&K administration incompetent, the CWC demanded the restoration of a full state and the holding of democratic elections.

The resolution also said that in other parts of the country, including Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram, inter-state conflicts have erupted, striking fear in people’s minds.

Expressing deep concern over the Centre’s decision to grant more powers to the Border Security Force, which now has search and seizure powers up to 50 km from the border in states such as Assam, West Bengal and Punjab, the CWC said, “This is a dangerous encroachment on the exclusive power of the states and the powers of the state police.”
