The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress inaugurated its State Working Committee headed by a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Acho Obioma.

The party’s former state chairman, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, handed over the reins of party leadership to him on Thursday at the party secretariat on Azikwe Road in the state capital Umuahia.

Nwankpa said the emergence of Obioma, as state chairman of the party, is the wish of its many members, adding that his reign has marked the beginning of a new era in Abia APC.

Nwankpa revealed that APC under his leadership rose from obscurity to stardom.

He stressed that the party cannot be hijacked by one man, who refused to submit to the party leadership.

He insisted that there is no faction in Abia APC, but rather there is a party session loyal to the party’s interim national chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni.

In his acceptance speech, Obioma commended the party members for deeming him worthy to be their leader, stating that he would do the job to the best of his abilities.

He urged party members to hold regular meetings at ward and local party government levels to enhance their growth.

He said, “Abia APC has discovered that all residents of Abia want a change of government in the state. We are committed to bringing this change to the people of the state by 2023.

“We therefore seek the support of everyone to help us in our quest to bring about this change in Abia State.”

The publicity secretary of the party in the state, Engr. Mike Odoemena, told reporters that Obioma is the authentic state president of the APC, while the secretariat remains that of No. 38 Azikwe road Umuahia.
