CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress Leader and Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday hailed the Congress Working Committee (CWC) for being concerned about the plight of farmers and standing in solidarity with them on the issue of farm laws by adopting a resolution to that effect at its meeting held last Saturday.

Welcoming the resolution, the Chief Minister said the Three Black Farm Bills are the culmination of the conspiracy to subjugate Indian farmers for the benefit of a handful of Modi government friendly capitalist cronies. He also said that for more than ten and a half months, hundreds of thousands of farmers have been protesting peacefully at Delhi’s borders, blocked by spikes and rocks on the trunk road.

The Chief Minister further pointed out that almost a thousand farmers have sacrificed their lives, but the cruel Modi government refuses even to engage with them. “He further refuses to repeal the Three Black Laws and end the stalemate,” Channi said, adding that the Indian National Congress (INC) is committed to repealing the Three Black Laws and ensuring a mechanism fair and equitable minimum support prices for Indian farmers and justice for landless farm workers. The INC has stood shoulder to shoulder with the Nation’s farmers and led the protests against the vicious design to remove compensation fees for land acquisition.

We succeeded then and we will succeed now against the three “black laws”. We reiterate our continued resolve to fight this battle alongside farmers and farmworkers to defeat the Modi government’s deliberate attack on Anndatas in India, the Chief Minister added.
