Voice of Nigeria (VON) Chief Executive Osita Okechukwu appeals to Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s new National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to follow the President’s roadmap Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Okechukwu appealed on Sunday as he addressed reporters at Eagle Square Abuja on the results of the just concluded APC convention.

PRESIDENT’S ROADMAP FOR PARTY PRIMARY
While congratulating the new National President and NWC members, he urged the new APC leadership to diligently follow President Buhari’s roadmap in conducting the upcoming party primaries.

He said essential elements of the president’s roadmap are adherence to the doctrine of internal democracy and a level playing field, ensuring that the highest bidders do not hijack the party’s upcoming primaries.

The DG admitted that moneybags were seemingly unavoidable in body politics in Nigeria, but acknowledged the possibility of holding free, fair and transparent party primaries.

He said: “I base my confidence on the principle that the distinguished Senator Adamu and his team will follow the road map of Mr. President because he (Adamu) led the reconciliation committee and certain members like the national secretary at the organization are with him. So practice with the Report, it will be easier for NWC to navigate.

Mr. Okechukwu further advised the Committee to look into the reconciliation reports for better results in the upcoming party primaries. “For me, the NWC should first respond to the recommendations of the reconciliation committee report to engender trust and ensure real peace instead of graveyard peace in many states before embarking on the primaries.”

Mr Okechukwu criticized claims that there was no time to waste on reconciliation, describing it as essential to updating the President’s roadmap.

“All the NWC needs to do is set up numerous primary election panels, a minimum of three per state for the National Assembly, Senate and Federal House of Representatives, Governor and President.”

He proposed that “there should be as many as possible, because grouping them together would slow down the process and create room for money bags to divert the process.”
