New Delhi, October 9

The senior Congress leadership will meet on October 16 to deliberate on the current political situation and decide on the organization of the elections during a meeting of the party’s working committee, the CWC.

AICC Secretary General KC Venugopal tweeted: “A Congress Working Committee Meeting will be held on Saturday 16th October 2021 at 10:00 am at AICC Office, 24, Akbar Road, New Delhi to discuss the current political situation, upcoming assembly elections and organizational elections.

The meeting was called after requests from a section of the party to discuss important issues, including some defections in the recent past. Former Rajya Sabha opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had also written to the Congress speaker to convene a CWC meeting soon.

Sources say the party’s highest executive body should focus on the issue of farmers and could address some of the issues related to political unrest within party units, including the Punjab unit and the concerns raised by the leaders of the “G-23”.

Party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had visited relatives of farmers who died after they were allegedly hit by a car belonging to Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni in Lakhimpur district Khéri from UP.

The meeting should be held in person. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the CWCs were held virtually.

‘PM should sack MoS Mishra’

Congress Spokesman Pawan Khera said today that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi is serious about saving democracy he should dismiss Minister of State at Home Ajay Mishra within 24 hours.
