West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee has called a meeting of her party’s national working committee for May 5, the first anniversary of the TMC government’s third term in the state.

According to party sources, the meeting will be held at the new TMC Bhawan at 4 p.m.

“Mamata Banerjee called a meeting of the party’s national working committee on May 5. It will be a closed-door affair. However, it is possible that a new public awareness program will be launched,” a senior TMC official said. quoted by PTI as saying.

West Bengal’s ruling party, which has recently come under fire for the Birbhum killings and a string of alleged rape cases, plans to launch a mass awareness program modeled on its success’Didi ke Bolo‘ (Tell Didi) on May 5, TMC’s sources said.

The program, which has yet to be dubbed, would in all likelihood give common people the opportunity to register their complaints and grievances, just like success’Didi ke Boloinitiative, they said.

It comes at a time when Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be in the state for a three-day visit.

Amit Shah will arrive in Kolkata on the night of May 5. He will first travel to Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas district to attend a Border Security Force (BSF) function. It will also assess BSF preparations along the India-Bangladesh border.

The Home Minister will reach Siliguri in the afternoon and address a public gathering. Later, he will hold a meeting with party members.

Amit Shah’s visit also comes at a time when senior BJP officials in West Bengal have repeatedly urged the central government to issue guidelines to strengthen state unity. It also follows partial polls last month, where Trinamool’s ruling Congress won both seats by wide margins.
