Trinamool calls emergency working committee meeting on Monday
Kolkata: As the winter session of Parliament begins, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday called an emergency meeting of her Trinamool Congress Working Committee to decide on the way forward to strengthen the party’s imprint on the national web.
Apart from Banerjee and the party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, all 21 members of the working committee, including top leaders like Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Derek O’Brien, were asked to attend the meeting. to be held at the Minister’s Chief Residence on Monday evening.
Even Ashok Tanwar, Haryana’s top congressman who recently joined the party, was invited to attend.
Sources within the party said the meeting is expected to be important as the Committee is likely to discuss the party’s future course of action at the meeting. Trinamool Legislative Party leader in Parliament Bandyopadhyay, who is currently in Delhi, has been asked to skip the multi-party meeting ahead of the winter session and return to Kolkata to attend the Working Committee meeting.
“As there is a very important meeting in Kolkata, we cannot attend the multi-party meeting,” Bandyopadhyay told media.
Party insiders have indicated that as there will be discussions on the results of the recent local body elections in Tripura, and party leader Banerjee is likely to give a detailed roadmap on the future course of the party during of the winter session.
In view of the 2024 parliamentary elections, Trinamool has already extended its organization to states such as Tripura, Goa and Haryana. Senior leaders like Sushmita Deb, former Goa Chief Minister Luizino Falerio, Kirti Azad and Tanwar have joined the party and are likely to carry the party banner nationally. The party will discuss how these national leaders can be used effectively to spread the organization to different states in the country.
“We will fight tooth and nail to uproot the BJP from the country. We have already made a mark on the political map of the country and in the upcoming elections these will become increasingly important. The meeting will decide the strategy and future course of the party,” said a senior official and one of the working committee members.
