Chandigarh, March 15

A day after sounding the bugle of the Jalalabad poll and amid reports of party infighting by some potential candidates, Shiromani Akali Dal today expanded his working committee and also formed a disciplinary committee to check for any indiscipline or rebellion.

Interestingly, almost all prominent leaders were included in the 87-member working committee.

Party spokesman Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema said almost a third of the 30 existing office bearers were Hindus. “The working committee has 101 members, 87 of whom were appointed today. Other members will soon be named. The list also includes Hindu leaders, but more are Sikhs because our party’s base is among farmers,” he said.

SAD chairman Sukhbir Singh Badal has also formed a three-member disciplinary committee headed by Jathedar Tota Singh. Gulzar Singh Ranike and Parkash Chand Garg will be the other two members. —TNS
