KATHMANDU, May 3: The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has announced that Nepal will host the Nepal-Malaysia Joint Working Committee meeting in June this year.

According to the ministry, a five-day visit by a Nepalese delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Krishna Kumar Shrestha, to Malaysia was successful.

During the visit which took place at the invitation of Malaysian Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Seri M Saravanan, the Nepalese delegation held bilateral meetings with Malaysian Minister of Interior Hamzah Zainudin and Minister Saravanan and offered to increase minimum pay, service and other benefits and entitlements for Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia.

The meeting also agreed to hold the Nepal-Malaysia Joint Working Committee meeting in June this year.

During the meetings, discussions were held on a wide range of issues relating to the labor pact between Nepal and Malaysia signed in 2018. The pact contains provisions aimed at increasing employment opportunities for Nepalese, making young Nepalese more qualified to meet the needs of Malaysians. labor market, arranging for the training of security guards in Nepal, making the zero cost principle effective in screening and inducing young people for overseas employment, among others.

In addition, health, social security and welfare provisions, round-the-clock insurance service for Nepalese migrant workers, among others, were also discussed during the meetings, the ministry added.

The Nepalese delegation urged the Malaysian side to consider increasing the monthly salary of Nepalese security guards in Malaysia to 3,000 Malaysian ringgits.
