In an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the national working committee of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) dismissed Jamui MP Chirag Paswan as the party’s national chairman. The meeting took place at the residence of newly elected MP and leader of the LJP parliamentary party and Paswan’s uncle, Pashupati Kumar Paras, in New Delhi.

In a side meeting held at Paswan’s residence, the five rebel MPs were ousted from the party. “A national executive meeting was held where the decision [to remove all the five MPs from the party] was taken,” party leader Raju Tiwari said. “There is a process of doing things in a party. This [the rebellion] is a betrayal,” he said.

Late Monday evening, the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a notification recognizing Paras as the leader of the LJP parliamentary party. It came a day after five of the party’s six MPs informed Lok Sabha Chairman Om Birla that they had unanimously elected Paras as leader of the LJP parliamentary party.

The working committee also decided to make Party Senior Vice Chairman Suraj Singh aka Suraj Bhan the working national chairman and authorized him to convene a party national council meeting within five days to elect a new national chairman. .

Sources close to Paras said the national council meeting, which is expected to take place in Patna, could make the MP the national president by changing the party constitution that favors one man in office.

Meanwhile, after failing to meet his uncle Paras and his cousin and MP for Samastipur, Prince Raj, on Monday, Paswan reportedly left a letter behind offering a compromise by making his mother Reena Paswan the national president.

On Tuesday he tweeted that he had done his best to keep the party together, sharing a letter he wrote to Pashupati Paras on March 29 this year where he urged his uncle to take responsibility for keeping the party together. like his late father Ram Vilas Paswan. He also compared the holiday to a mother who shouldn’t be betrayed.

Paswan took charge of the LJP after his father died a few weeks before Bihar’s elections last year.
