LACEY, NJ — The Lacey Township Police Department promoted Officer Michael Hein to sergeant at Thursday’s township committee meeting.
Hein was sworn in one year from the date his father, Jeffrey Hein, who was a captain in the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, died.
Hein started out as a correctional officer for the New Jersey Department of Corrections, Police Chief Michael DiBella said at the meeting. Hein was hired by the LTPD in April 2013 as a full-time police officer.

In the LTPD, Hein served in multiple roles, working in the patrol division and training new officers, DiBella said. Dibella said Hein has also been in charge of the night shift for the past few months.
Hein holds an associate’s degree from Ocean County College, two bachelor’s degrees from Kean in criminal justice and sociology and a master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson in public administration, DiBella said.

“Thank you and keep us safe,” McDonald said.
“Given your experience and your education, and of course your collaboration with these excellent police officers, we know that you will be a great leader and a major asset to our force,” Mayor Mark Dykoff said.
