Finalization of the 133 members of the central working committee of the Nepali Congress

The Deuba faction gets 82% of the seats while the Shekhar Koirala faction gets 16%

KATHMANDU: The final result of the 14th General Convention of the Nepalese Congress (NC) was announced on Thursday.

The general convention held from December 10 to 13 saw the election of a total of 133 central members, including 13 officers.

Re-elected NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba backed the candidates who won a vice-presidency and six joint secretary-general positions, totaling seven office-bearer positions. Dr. Shekhar Koirala’s faction had won a vice-presidency and a general secretary’s seat, and two joint general secretaries, or four bureau seats.

Supported by leader Prakash Man Singh, Bishwa Prakash Sharma was elected joint secretary general.

Out of 123 core members, the Deuba faction claimed seats of 101 core members and seven bureau members, making 109 seats in total; while the Koirala faction won 19 core member seats and the candidates backed by Chief Singh won two positions.

Dr. Shashank Koirala won the core members by popular vote and represented all three panels.

In total, the Deuba faction won 82% of the seats and Shekhar Koirala won 16%.

Shekhar Koirala automatically became the core member.

The remaining 33 members of the 167-member central working committee will be appointed by the party chairman.
