TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Committee of the House of Representatives has decided to create a working committee to deal with the question of cooking oil scarcity and soaring prices. Commission leaders and a number of coalition party factions supporting the government disagreed with the PKS faction’s proposal to form a special questionnaire rights committee to deal with the issue of the ‘cooking oil.

“We do not agree [with the proposal of a special committee for cooking oil]. It would only create further commotion. For now, we have formed a working committee on food and staples to explore this controversy,” deputy chairman of the DPR VI commission of the Gerindra party faction, Mohamad Hekal, said Monday evening March 21. .

Hekal will be the chairman of the working committee, which is to hold an internal meeting today.

The PKS faction had suggested the right of inquiry and said a special commission should be set up as the government had failed to overcome the months-long cooking oil price turmoil. Chairman of the PKS faction in the RPD RI, Jazuli Juwaini, said his party had seen signs of law violations in the cooking oil dispute and that the government must be held accountable, both politically than legal.

PDIP faction Commission VI member Deddy Yevri Hanteru Sitorus disagreed with the PKS proposal, saying it did ‘not meet constitutional legal requirements’, he said yesterday .

According to Deddy, the cooking oil the scarcity is caused by skyrocketing prices of CPO and its derivatives due to declining vegetable oil supply, the global energy crisis and the conflict in Ukraine. However, Indonesia is not out of stock.

The problem, he said, is with profit seekers trying to take advantage of the situation. “So it’s very clear that the problem here is law enforcement,” he said.
