Congressional working committee to meet virtually on April 17 to discuss COVID-19 situation in the country
According to the sources, the CWC will discuss the current COVID-19 situation in the country and the urgent measures to be taken to control the spread of the virus.
Congress’ top decision-making body is also expected to pass a resolution calling on the government to take effective measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus and provide vaccines to all as well as financial support to poor and oppressed sections, the sources said.
Congress has criticized the Modi government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recently, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to expand the country’s vaccination campaign against COVID-19.
The party leadership also demanded that the poor be given money to help them overcome the crisis.
India recorded the biggest daily jump of 1,84,372 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the country’s total to 1,38,73,825. With 1,027 new deaths, the death toll rose to 1,72 085, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health.
Registering a steady increase for the 35th consecutive day, active cases in the country rose to 13,65,704, while the national recovery rate fell to 88.92 percent from 89.51 on Tuesday, the data showed.
