Ahead of the eleventh round of meetings between farmers and the Center, a crucial meeting of the Congressional Working Committee (CWC) began here on Friday to discuss the farmers’ unrest, among other issues. The timetable for the election of a new party president is also likely to be discussed.

Congress General Secretary and National Media Officer, Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “The CWC meeting is starting. Congress President Sonia Gandhi addresses the CWC.”

According to party sources, the virtual meeting chaired by Sonia Gandhi will discuss Arnab Goswami’s alleged national security-related chat leak, Covid-19 situation apart from ongoing farmer unrest.

Sources also said that during the meeting, the election schedule for the new party leader will also be discussed.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting the Three Farm Laws at the borders of the nation’s capital since November 26 last year, demanding the repeal of the three laws.

On Tuesday, former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the government over the three farm bills, saying they were introduced to destroy India’s agricultural sector.

On Wednesday, Congress dispatched former defense minister AK Antony, former interior minister Sushil Shinde, former justice minister and external affairs minister Salman Khurshid and opposition leader Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad to corner the government over the alleged chat leaks involving Goswami.

Congress called the leak of secret information a treason and demanded an immediate investigation into the matter.
