PResident Muhammadu Buhari described as “deeply distressing” the destruction of police buildings and property and the home of Professor George Obiozor, Chairman General of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Imo State.

The president, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Sunday sympathized with Professor Obiozor whom he called the leading voice of moderation in the country’s affairs.

He urged him to maintain his commitment to peace and unity of the federation against these senseless terrorists.

President Buhari, who also sympathized with the police authorities for the loss of men and equipment, skinned the violence in the Southeast.

Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State also condemned the attack on Professor Obiozor’s house.

In a statement he personally signed, Uzodinma said the attack was carried out by “political bandits” and regretted that desperate politicians who believed in violence had yet to sheathe their swords despite repeated pleas for this purpose.

He swore the government was already working with security agencies to identify and punish the perpetrators.

Uzodinma wondered why the bandits should attack the house of a man who is not a politician but a statesman working for the good of the whole Igbo race.
