The State Executive Committee of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has suspended all members of the State Working Committee (SWC) / Extra Ordinary Convention Center Planning Committee , ethical misconduct, breach of responsibility and breach of trust, among other offences.

It also passed a vote of no confidence in the National Secretary of the Interim/Extra Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Udoedehe, for failing to ensure that the guidelines for the ward convention are strictly followed and that the convention is held in the state.

This was revealed in a statement released at the end of the APC SEC State Meeting on August 1, 2021, jointly signed by Group Captain Sam Ewang (rtd), Rt Hon Eseme Eyiboh, Rt Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo, Obonganwan Geraldine Etuk and Obonganwan Glory. Effig.

The suspension followed the failure of the SWC)/Extra Ordinary Convention Center Planning Committee to hold the party’s statewide neighborhood convention as announced.

Giving the reasons for the suspension, the statement said that according to the schedule/guidelines duly issued “on or about July 18, 2021” by CECPC National Secretary, Senator Udoedehe, neighborhood conventions were to be held on July 31. . , 2021.

The statement said each state, according to the guidelines, was supposed to have a seven-person committee selected on the basis of integrity to be known as the Ward Congress Committee, comprising the president, secretary and five others.

The ward convention committee would appoint three people as the local ward convention committee “who will be responsible for conducting the screening and the convention.”

He said the screening was scheduled for July 29-30, 2021 and the convention venues were neighborhood centers, while members should be notified of such centers within 12 hours before the convention starts.

The SEC noted that “Following the guidelines outlined above, the then Secretary of State for Party Publicity, Mr. Nkereuwem Enyongekere, on Thursday, July 29, 2021 through a public notice titled ‘PAC WARD CONGRESS NOTICE IN AKWA IBOM STATE’ unequivocally affirmed that the ward congress will be by direct election (option A4) in all 329 wards of Akwa Ibom State.

But he noted that those guidelines “were completely violated, as the neighborhood convention was not held in any of the 329 neighborhood centers across the state on the stipulated date.

The SEC noted, “Candidates for neighborhood leadership positions who paid money into party-designated bank accounts and got tellers instead of the positions they were vying for were not selected or denied. took advantage of the opportunity to participate in a democratic election process.

“Candidates who were not selected by the dates stipulated in the convention guidelines or by any other date known to us have been disenfranchised and fraudulently engineered.

“Some aspirants don’t even have access to the forms they paid for.

“APC members in Akwa Ibom State have not been informed of the time and place of the congress as stated in the congress guidelines.”

He described the action of the members of the State Work Committee as “malicious negligence and criminal negligence of responsibility.”

The SEC announced the appointment of a new state working committee to steer the party’s affairs in an interim capacity, “pending disciplinary action being entered into against the suspended and former members of the state working committee. of the party and the State Guardian/Extraordinary Congress Planning Committee.
