Ahn Cheol-soo of the centrist People’s Party has reported the greatest wealth among South Korean presidential candidates, the National Election Commission (NEC) said on Monday.

Ahn, an entrepreneur-turned-politician, said his personal assets amounted to 197.99 billion won ($165 million), the highest amount among the 11 presidential candidates who have completed the registration of candidacies. with the NEC on Sunday.

Yoon Suk-yeol, the main opposition presidential candidate from the People’s Power Party, said the second-highest wealth at 7.75 billion won, while the ruling Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung said his personal assets amounted to 3.22 billion won, the NEC said.

Sim Sang-jeung of the Minor Progressive Justice Party brought in the smallest amount among major political party candidates at 1.41 billion won.

Lee’s reported assets included an apartment worth 1.33 billion won, bank deposits worth 1.29 billion won, an apartment and a car.

In Yoon’s case, his wife, Kim Keon-hee, accounted for most of his reported assets. He said his personal assets amounted to 846 million won and Kim’s assets amounted to around 6.9 billion won, most of which are bank deposits.

Sim reported that her husband’s apartment was valued at around 500 million won and her mother’s apartment at 1.01 billion won.

For Ahn, the lion’s share of his wealth is 1.86 million shares in Ahn Lab, the country’s largest antivirus software company he founded, worth about 184 billion won.

Ahn also included an apartment in Seoul, two minivans and 11.5 billion won in bank deposits and other financial assets among his personal wealth.

Among minor presidential candidates, Kim Dong-yeon of the New Wave Party said his assets were worth about 4.1 billion won and Huh Kyung-young of the National Revolutionary Party said he was worth 26.4 billion. of won. (Yonhap)
