TUCSON (KVOA) — At a special meeting Monday, the Arizona board of directors condemned Russian aggression and voted to divest all Russian assets.
“The Arizona Board of Trustees is asking Arizona presidents to direct that university investment policies exclude any investment in Russian assets,” said ABOR President Lyndel Manson.
Arizona State University President Michael Crow said there is a lot going on in academia.
“So we don’t want to cut ourselves off from academics, which is to say, we just don’t want to offer any assistance that might be helpful to the Russian mission to restart the European war.”
University of Arizona President Dr. Robert Robbins said Uof A doesn’t have a lot of money tied up in Russian investments.
“About $8 million in an international growth fund. Of which less than 30%, I think 20% is in Russian assets,” Robbins said.
The Regents also discussed reaching out to international students in the area and providing assistance when needed.
“Strong support for students, individually if they need help with housing, even tuition, we could think of ways to support them during this troubling time,” Regent Ron Shoopman said.
According to UArizona President Robert Robbins, there are less than 100 Ukrainian and Russian students at the University of Arizona.
“We have two Lithuanian brothers and an Estonian point guard who are very eager for the next countries to be the Baltics, so we contacted not only these international basketball team players, but all the students and faculty members. .,” Robbins said.
